Back in the Day

You are about to enter Plettenberg Bay’s very first house. Perched at the top of Kloof Street on Erf 1, The Old house shop was the first house to be built in the, now bustling, coastal town of Plettenberg Bay.

Built in 1910 this historical cottage with 100 year old oak trees is now a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike. If you’re looking for the perfect gift – this should be your first stop.

With her keen, magpie eye, Suzie Ovenstone has curated a shop crammed with covetous goodies from Zanzibar, Lamu Mauritius and Madagascar to Mozambique, Kenya and back. Her love shows in the choice of unique hand-crafted homeware and clothing: ‘I travel to shop, to share… it’s the stories behind the product that excite me, the families I find, still crafting things themselves. That’s the story of The Old House Shop and why I’m still passionate about it 30 years later’.

This not-so-little shop is steeped in history and thoughtfully chosen pieces and well worth the visit, even if it’s just for a coffee and entremets.
